The affected land owners of Araihajar Upazila of Narayanganj district have formed a human chain demanding fair compensation for the acquired land of the 4-lane road improvement project of Dhaka-Sylhet highway.

They claim that if we do not get fair compensation, we will give life but not land.

This human chain was held at the 4-lane road project site of Bunty Bazar area of Araihajar upazila of the highway on Wednesday (October 23) at noon yesterday. At this time, 32 affected landowners and their relatives of Dhuptara and Panchrukhi Mauza participated in the human chain. Dr. Tuhin Miah, Barek Molla, Murad Miah, Masuda Begum, Moslema Begum spoke at the human chain.

Speakers in the human chain said that Awami League leader Nazrul Islam Babu, former Member of Parliament of Narayanganj District's Parliamentary Constituency Araihajar-2, paid due price to his loyal and favorite people with the connivance of some dishonest officials of the district administration. But because we have a different opinion, we are being unfairly discriminated against without any rational reason.

The speaker also said that Nazrul Islam Babu's people threatened and pressured us to accept the price offered by the district administration. We remain in hiding without agreeing to it. Because our neighboring land RS 245 dag is paid 7 crore 7 million taka per acre, but the price of our RS 244 dag has been fixed at 2 crore 43 lakh 31 thousand taka. Thus many owners are deprived of adequate compensation.

The speakers also said, we have submitted a written application to the Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner on September 2 to determine the actual fair compensation subject to re-verification of the exact value of the acquired land. If we don't get fair compensation, we will give life but not land.
