Impact of cyclone Dana : Dashaliya dam vulnerable, residents in panic in Koyra

Rain started from 10 am on Wednesday at Koyra coast of Khulna district under the influence of cyclone Dana. The Met Office said the rains that started on Wednesday will continue.

And due to the increase of water in the river, the anxiety about the Dashalia dam is increasing among the people of the area. In the meantime, the people of the villages around the Dashaliya embankment are worried about the weak embankment. Residents fear that if the cyclone hits, the dangerous embankment will break and the surrounding villages will be flooded again. Cyclone-induced tidal surges in the river may breach the weak Dashaliya embankment.

Everyone is worried about dilapidated embankments in different areas of the coast. Meanwhile, after the meeting, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ruli Biswas said that advance preparations have been made to deal with cyclone wings. Already 116 cyclone shelters have been prepared in Koyra. Aiming to make people aware in every union. Apart from this, CPP members are participating in various activities everywhere.

UP Chairman Alhaj Abdullah Al Mahmud said that the condition of Dashalia dam is critical. I have informed the concerned authorities, if the concerned authorities do not come forward, the dam will be broken and the area will be flooded. He also said that tenders have been issued for the dam but the work is not being done. Moreover, desalination is the biggest demand for protecting coir dams.

In this regard, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ruli Biswas said, we have sent people with equipment to Dashahalia. There is work in progress.
