The Special Response Battalion (SRB) has arrested the mastermind of a cyber fraud ring that embezzled millions of taka under the lure of jobs by creating fake phishing links in the name of Daraz apps.

On Saturday afternoon, a joint operation team of SRB-8 (Head Company, Barisal) and SRB-6 (CPC-3, Jessore) conducted a raid in the Barbazar area under Kotwali police station in Jessore district and arrested him.

The arrested accused is named as Md. Riazul Islam (31). He is the son of Md. Shahidul Islam of Devatra village under Mathbaria police station in Pirojpur district.

Fraud tactics and cases:
According to the case report, Riazul Islam and his associates had been working as an organized gang for a long time, spreading phishing links on the internet space under the name of Daraz, luring ordinary people to online jobs.

At one point, the gang added the victim, Ms. Sumana Parveen (45), to a WhatsApp group called ' http://Daraz.com '. There, they offered attractive commission rates on purchases of products on the online platform, which were shown as being deposited into the victim's app wallet. Later, when the victim tried to withdraw the money, she was asked to deposit the money into their specified bank account as a condition.

The victim, who was deceived by the fraudsters, transferred a total of 6,10,042 (six lakh ten thousand forty-two) taka to their bKash account and Dutch-Bangla Bank account in various stages. Later, realizing the fraud, the victim filed a petition case in the Barisal Cyber Tribunal.

The investigating officer of the case sent a request letter to the Commander, SRB-8, Barisal to arrest the accused. Later, with the help of secret information and modern information technology, the location of the accused was confirmed and he was arrested in a joint operation.

Arrested Riazul Islam has been handed over to the Kotwali Police Station in Jessore district for further legal action.
