Daily Manabzamin journalist has been accused of being threatened with death for publishing news of killings, attacks on journalists and making him a witness in a case during the July-August Uprising.

Enamul Haque Akand, the victim of the threat and the Sreepur correspondent of Gazipur's daily Manabzamin, has filed a general diary with Sreepur Police Station seeking personal and family security.

 

The threat maker, Almas Uddin, is the son of the late Amjad Hossain Gendu of Kewa village in Sreepur Municipality in Gazipur.

 

According to the general diary filed at Sreepur Police Station on Saturday  and the statement of Enamul Haque Akand, during the mass uprising of the anti-discrimination student masses in July-August 2024, the leaders and activists of the then dictator attacked the students and the masses protesting at the Maona intersection and surrounding areas of Sreepur Upazila on August 4.

There were also casualties. Cases were filed in these incidents at Sreepur Police Station, Gazipur Judge's Court and the International Crimes Tribunal. In the Gazipur Judge's Court case, the report published in the Daily Manabzamin and journalist Enamul Haque Akand were kept as witnesses without informing them. In that case, the younger brother of the threat maker Almas Uddin, Awami League leader Md. Hanifa, was also accused. Enraged by this, the defendant Almas Uddin has been threatening to kill journalist Enamul Haque. Journalist Enamul Haque filed a general diary with Sreepur Police Station on March 29 when he received another threat to kill him on the Kewabazar-Akandbari road around 11 am.

 

Joynal Abedin Mondal, OC of Sreepur Police Station, said,  a general diary has been filed in the police station in this regard. Further legal action will be taken after investigation.
