
Islamic Foundation organises discusdion on imams' role to combat terrorism, communalism in Shariatpur

A discussion meeting titled “Establishing Communal Harmony, Combating Terrorism, and Addressing Social Issues: The Role of Imams” was held in Shariatpur at 10:30 AM on Tuesday at the auditorium of Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center in Sadar Upazila, organized by the Islamic Foundation.
In his speech as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashraf Uddin said, “It is not possible to prevent everything by enforcing laws alone. To bring positive change in society, it is essential to involve religious leaders like imams. In a Muslim-majority country, imams are a driving force in societal transformation.”
He further stated, “Imams hold a highly respected position in society. Therefore, their responsibility is also greater. The role of imams is crucial in implementing government policies.”
Special guests at the event included Superintendent of Police Md. Nazrul Islam, PPM-Service; Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Elora Yasmin; Jamaat-e-Islami Shariatpur district branch Ameer Maulana Mohammad Khalilur Rahman; Principal of Shariatpur Islamia Kamil Madrasa Maulana Md. Mizanur Rahman; senior journalist and RTV district correspondent Abul Hossain; and Islamic Foundation Master Trainer Hafiz Maulana Mufti Md. Rahul Amin.
Speakers at the discussion emphasized the importance of maintaining religious harmony, preventing extremism, and encouraging the active participation of imams in solving various social problems.
The meeting was presided over by Dr. Muhammad Abu Talha, Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation, Shariatpur.
