
Army raided three factories for manufacturing fake baby food, two arrested in Gaibandha

The Army raided three factories manufacturing fake baby food including kush, chips and chocolate in Kuthipara area of Gaibandha city and arrested two people and fined them Tk 425,000.
Based on a secret tip-off, members of the 6th Engineer Battalion under the temporary army camp in Gaibandha conducted raid on Tuesday midnight. Captain Commander Asib Biswas led the operation.
Two people Shakil Mia (32) and Mithu Mia (37) were arrested in the operation.
According to sources, the two arrested people had illegally set up a factory to manufacture these baby food inside their house. Two fake product factories, 8 manufacturing machines, a large amount of baby food and beverage products were seized in the operation.
In addition, a significant amount of cash was also recovered from the factory. At that time, Assistant Commissioner (General ) Executive Magistrate Sabbir Ahmed set up a mobile court and sentenced the two owners of the factory to four lakh taka and one year in prison under Section 50 of the Consumer Rights Act of 2009, and the owner of another factory, Anjana Akter, was released after being fined 25 thousand taka on humanitarian grounds as she was pregnant.
Legal action has been taken. Locals said, for a long time, fake food products were being produced in this area and distributed in the local market.
Parash Chandra Barman, Assistant Director of the Gaibandha Consumer Affairs Department, Army Captain Achib and members of the law and order department were present.
