Housewife kidnapped for dowry :  Press conference on charge   of beating to death in Nilphamari

 The family of a housewife named Nasrin Nahar (35) in Nilphamari has alleged that she was beaten to death over dowry.

The allegations were made by the deceased Nasreen's father, Abdul Jabbar, and her sisters and brothers at a press conference held at the Nilphamari Press Club on Monday afternoon. 

At the press conference, Abdul Jabbar said that after her first husband died of heart failure, her daughter Nasrin was married to Abdul Mannan, son of the deceased Abdul Majid of Fakirganj area of Kundapukur union in Sadar upazila. The son-in-law was given five lakh taka as dowry for the marriage.

Since the marriage, Abdul Mannan's family had been physically and mentally torturing Nasreen, demanding three lakh taka as dowry. Mannan's first wife's son and his son's wives were involved in the torture.

Nasreen's father Abdul Jabbar alleged that on August 26, her son-in-law and his family members pressured her to bring another three lakh taka from her father's house for dowry. When the girl refused, they brutally beat her to death, tied a scarf around her neck and hung her from a fan.

They fled the house immediately after the incident. Based on the information from the neighbors, the police reached the spot, recovered his body and took it to the police station. Later, the autopsy was completed. I filed a case at the police station regarding the murder.

The press conference called for an impartial investigation, giving importance to allegations of torture in exchange for dowry, reviewing the role of each person involved in the incident, ensuring that no influential person can interfere with the investigation, and the speedy arrest of the accused.

The deceased Nasreen's brother Abdul Gaffar, sister Jinnat Ara, and brother-in-law Hafizul Islam were present at the press conference.
In this regard, Nilphamari Police Station OC  Zillur Rahman said that Nasreen's father Abdul Jabbar has filed a case with the police station over the death. The son-in-law Abdul Mannan, the son-in-law's daughter-in-law Arifa Begum and two sons Alamgir Hossain and Delwar Hossain have been named as accused in the case.
