The ‘Environment Innovation Summit’, a joint initiative of Dhaka University Research Council, Mission Green Bangladesh and JCI Dhaka Metro, was held at the Student-Teacher Center Auditorium on Saturday.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan spoke as the chief guest at the closing ceremony.

Nyoka Martinez Backstrom, First Secretary of the Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka, inaugurated the day-long event in the morning. Dr. Ahmed Kamruzzaman Majumder, Professor of the Department of Environmental Sciences at Stamford University, Sharif Jamil, Coordinator of the non-governmental organization Water Keeper Bangladesh, Ahsan Rony, Executive Director of Green Bangladesh, and Tanjim Ferdous, In-charge of NGO and Foreign Mission Affairs of The Daily Star, spoke as panelists in various sessions.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said, the environment is related to our existence. The environment must be protected for the sake of people, biodiversity, the earth and Bangladesh. It is not possible for any single person or organization to face the challenge of global climate change. Everyone must work together to face this challenge.

He emphasized on the responsibility and awareness-raising to protect the balance of the environment and make the future world habitable.

More than 400 workers from 70 environmental organizations participated in the program. 9 individuals and organizations were awarded for their climate-tolerant innovations and work.

The awardees are: Tree-related content creators Umm Kulthum Poppy and Abu Saeed Al Sagar, Member Secretary of Dharitree Ronne Amara Sharif Jamil, Sohanur Rahman of Youth Net and Mahmud Rakib, Special Correspondent of Ekhon TV.

The award-winning organizations are: Environment and Social Development Organization, As Sunnah Foundation, Feni District Volunteer Family, ACI Agro Business, Shailbriksha and Biopharma Limited.
