DU authorities to appeal to HC against accused in murder of Abu Bakr

DU Correspondent

Dhaka University authorities have decided to appeal to the High Court against the High Court's verdict declaring the expulsion of the accused students in the death of Md. Abu Bakr Siddique, a student of the Department of Islamic History and Culture of Dhaka University, illegal.

This decision was taken in the interest of fairness and justice. It is worth noting that in 2010, a clash broke out between two conflicting groups of a student organization in Sir A.F. Rahman Hall. During this, Md. Abu Bakr Siddique, a meritorious third-year student of the Department of Islamic History and Culture, was seriously injured while staying in his room and later died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.

In a syndicate meeting held on March 2, 2010, 10 students were temporarily expelled from Dhaka University for their involvement in the clash. Two of the expelled students filed separate writ petitions in the High Court Division against the university authorities' expulsion order.

In this context, the High Court Division declared the expulsion order illegal in 2012 and ruled in favor of the plaintiffs. Recently, the Dhaka University authorities have decided to appeal against this ruling in the High Court.

The university authorities believe that by appealing to the High Court, the path to justice in the murder of talented student Abu Bakar Siddique will be smooth.
