Democratic values vital to make July Mass Uprising meaningful: DU VC

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam emphasized establishing democratic values, justice, freedom of expression, and mutual respect to ensure the success of the July Mass Uprising's achievements.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion titled "July Mass Uprising: Democratic Reconstruction, Expectations for Tomorrow's Bangladesh" at the RC Majumdar Arts Auditorium on Sunday.
The event was organized by the Faculty of Arts and chaired by Dean Prof Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Sarkar.
Addressing the gathering, the VC highlighted the importance of understanding the aspirations of students who led the movement and criticized past autocratic practices, including forced political gathering and torture in university halls ("Gonoroom" and "Guestroom" culture).
