Discussion on 'July Uprising and Democratic Transition of Bangladesh 'at DU

A discussion titled 'July Uprising and Democratic Transition in Bangladesh' was held at the TSC Auditorium on Friday at the initiative of the Dhaka University Debating Society.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan MP was the chief guest at the event, and Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Mohammad Almojaddidi Alfesani was present as the special guest.

Dhaka University Debating Society Chief Moderator Prof Dr. SM Shamim Reza, Moderator Professor Dr. Amirus Salat, Former President Khademul Karim Iqbal and Former General Secretary Munir Uddin Ahmed were present as guests of honor at the event. Dhaka University Debating Society President Md. Sajid Hasan presided over the event. Miftahul Jannat Rifat, General Secretary of the organization, conducted the event.

Former General Secretary of Dhaka University Debating Society Adnan Mustari, former President Arpita Goldar, former President of Dhaka University Journalists Association Mohiuddin Mujahid Mahi, Central President of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti Zahid Ahsan, GS of DUCSUR SM Farhad and General Secretary of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal Nahiduzzaman Shipon participated in the panel discussion titled 'Reminiscences of July 2024 and Hopes in the Current Political Context'. The panel discussion was moderated by Khademul Karim Iqbal.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, reminiscing about his student life, said that constructive political practice, youth participation, and the development of democratic values are essential in the educational arena.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Mohammad Almojaddidi Alfesani emphasized on retaining the spirit of the July Uprising and said that the young society and students must play an active role in building a non-discriminatory, democratic and accountable Bangladesh.

An exhibition debate was also held at the initiative of Dhaka University Debating Society. The proposal of the debate was 'This Parliament thinks July is successful.' Former president of Dhaka University Debating Society Sheikh Md. Arman, former vice-president Nazmul Huda Azad, former vice-president Maisha Maliha, former joint general secretary Imran Hossain Fahim, former joint general secretary Tasnim Akhter Alif Nabila and former general secretary of Sufia Kamal Debating Club Fariha Nausheen participated in the exhibition debate.

The debate brought forth a rational discussion on the achievements of the July Uprising, its political and social impact, the expectations and achievements, and the future democratic journey of Bangladesh. The debaters analyzed the events of July from different perspectives and presented their arguments for and against the proposals.
