
Death threats against businessman in Gopalganj

Businessman Md. Mostafizur Rahman, a resident of Paikkandi village in Gopalganj Sadar upazila, has received death threats. He has filed a general diary (GD) with Gopalganj Sadar Police Station regarding the incident.
Businessman Md. Mostafizur Rahman (48), father of the late Mosharraf Hossain Sikder, said that he has been running a business called "Sikder Electric" in Nawabpur, Dhaka. On July 30, 2025, unknown persons sent a computer-composed letter to the Paikkandi post office. In that letter, he and his family members were threatened with death. The letter even mentioned the information about which school and college his sons and daughters were studying in.
Earlier, on November 25, 2024, immediately after closing his shop in Nawabpur Market in Dhaka, 6-7 unidentified persons forcibly picked him up and beat him severely on a nearby street. His legs were severely injured. The attackers snatched the 1 lakh 50 thousand 890 taka he had with him and demanded another 1 crore taka as ransom. They threatened that the shop would not be allowed to open unless he paid the ransom.
Businessman Mostafizur Rahman said that he has been in great fear and anxiety since the incident. He has been forced to close his shop and has moved to another place for security reasons. He is currently in hiding, fearing for his life.
GD No. 198 has been filed with Gopalganj Sadar Police Station in this regard.
