Dr. Purangit Mahaldar, an associate professor in the Bangla department at Rajshahi University, tragically passed away following a road accident in Rajshahi city.

His unexpected demise has deeply saddened the university community and beyond.

The accident occurred on Monday afternoon at the Baro Rastar Mor area as Dr. Mahaldar was on his way to pick up his daughter from school. While attempting to avoid a speeding truck, he lost control of his motorcycle and sustained critical head injuries.

He was promptly transported to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), where he was admitted for emergency care.

Despite the best efforts of the medical team, Dr. Mahaldar succumbed to his injuries in the Intensive Care Unit at around 2:35 AM on Tuesday.

Dr. Shankar Biswas, a spokesperson for RMCH, confirmed that the cause of death was excessive cerebral hemorrhage.

On Tuesday morning, his body was brought to the Shahidullah Arts Building at Rajshahi University, where faculty members, students, and colleagues gathered to pay their final respects. The solemn event underscored the significant impact Dr. Mahaldar had on the university community.

Prof. Dr. Md Akhtar Hossain Mazumder, administrator of the university’s public relations office, conveyed condolences on behalf of the institution, stating, “The Rajshahi University administration extends its heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family during this time of profound loss.”

After the tribute at the university, Dr. Mahaldar’s body was transported to his ancestral home in Dumuria, Khulna, for the final rites.

Dr. Purangit Mahaldar was a dedicated educator, a respected scholar, and a valued mentor. His contributions to the field of education and literature, as well as his unwavering commitment to his students, will be remembered with admiration. His passing marks an irreparable loss to the academic community, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
