Commercial ship carrying chickpeas from Pakistan arrives at Mongla port for first time

Bagerhat Correspondent

A commercial ship carrying chickpeas from Pakistan has arrived at Mongla port for the first time on Thursday morning.

Panamanian-flagged MV Dolphin-19, carrying 5,500 metric tons of chickpeas used in animal feed, anchored at Jetty No. 8 of Mongla port.

Earlier, the ship started its journey from Karachi port in Pakistan on January 19, loaded with chickpeas. The ship has a draft of 7 meters and is 145 meters long.

Mongla port authorities said that 5,500 metric tons of chickpeas will be unloaded from the ship at Mongla port. A part of this will be refined at Mongla United Refinery and Bulk Storage Limited and the rest will be transported by road and waterway to Baghabari in Sirajganj district of Rajshahi division. From there, it will be supplied to various feed companies in the country.

This is the first time that chitagur is imported from Pakistan to Bangladesh. This import is expected to play an important role for the feed industry of Bangladesh. Chitagur is used in the preparation of animal feed and is an important ingredient in animal food. Those concerned believe that this import can open new horizons to meet the needs of the feed industry of Bangladesh.
