Within a remarkably brief period since assuming charge as Chairman of the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA), Engineer Belayet Hossain has begun leaving a distinctive mark through a series of bold administrative decisions and unyielding urban management policies.

The newly appointed head of the port city’s top development agency has drawn widespread public attention with his proactive efforts to enforce strict urban discipline, address chronic traffic congestion, and curb illegal construction without political bias.

Reflecting on his vision during a recent informal exchange at his official residence on Badsha Mia Road, near the Fine Arts Institute of Chittagong University, Engineer Belayet Hossain reaffirmed his commitment to transform Chattogram into a planned, environmentally sustainable, and technologically modern "Green City".

Highlighting his firm administrative stance against systemic irregularities, the CDA chief emphasised that principles cannot be compromised under political or social pressure. "I cannot be suppressed," Engineer Belayet stated assertively during the discussion, underlining his zero-tolerance policy toward planning violations and administrative deviations.

His stern enforcement drive and uncompromising attitude toward civic governance have already resonated across administrative and political circles in the port city, earning him widespread recognition for his decisive action.

Central to his blueprint for the port city is resolving long-standing civic distress, including waterlogging, urban housing demands, and traffic gridlocks. Under his leadership, the CDA aims to fast-track major infrastructure initiatives—such as expanding vital road networks, elevated expressways, and ring roads—while ensuring high standards of execution quality.

Urban experts and civic leaders believe that while turning Chattogram into a modern metropolis requires time and synchronized cooperation among municipal, state, and civil stakeholders, Engineer Belayet’s early initiatives demonstrate a clear roadmap toward sustainable urban planning.
