District BNP and all its organs and associate organizations held a press conference to denounce the misleading information published by various media outlets about BNP Vice Chairman and Patuakhali-1 MP Altaf Hossain Chowdhury.

The press conference was organized at Sabujbagh Pleasure Point at 10 am on Sunday.

Former acting general secretary of the district BNP, Maqsud Ahmed Bayezid Panna, read a written statement at the press conference.

In a written statement, he said, "On July 17, a news report was published in various media outlets about who or what demolished an establishment of Madhabkhali Union Awami League President Kazi Mizanur Rahman Lavlu in the dark of night in Mirzaganj Upazila. Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, a member of parliament from Patuakhali, is also upset about the matter. However, Lavlu Kazi was the chairman of Madhabkhali Union during the fascist Awami League era. As far as I know, Lavlu Kazi's establishment was built on government khas land.

He said that the government is conducting a drive to demolish illegal structures in Patuakhali. It needs to be confirmed through investigation whether the demolished structure was demolished by the government or by miscreants. But the misleading information that has been published about the demolished structure regarding Patuakhali-1 constituency MP Altaf Hossain Chowdhury is regrettable. He is currently abroad on government work. He knows nothing about the vandalism of this structure. A vested interest group is jealous of his popularity and is spreading various propaganda involving him.
He instructed the relevant authorities to identify the perpetrators through a proper investigation into the incident and bring them under the law.

He also said, "During the previous fascist government, Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League leaders and activists attacked Altaf Hossain Chowdhury's house, Suraiya Bhaban, in Patuakhali, vandalizing various furniture and causing extensive damage. If they wanted, they could have filed a case against them and caused damage. He does not do politics of revenge. I strongly condemn and protest against the publication of such false and fabricated news by adding the name of a popular and veteran politician."

The press conference was attended by Adv. Wahid Sarwar Kalam, Adv. Toufiq Ali Khan Kabir, former president of the District Bar Association Adv. ATM Mozammel Hossain Tapan and Adv. Al Amin Sujan, along with district BNP leaders.
