In a combing operation over the past 12 hours ending Saturday, 55 BGB Battalion seized various Indian vitamins and narcotics worth Tk 13.2 million.
As part of its continued success in curbing smuggling and drug trafficking in border areas, the Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB) has once again demonstrated its effectiveness. Regular patrols and operations are being conducted by 16 BOPs along the border to prevent smuggling. During this time, BGB patrol teams seized abandoned Indian goods, including various vitamins, narcotics (alcohol), mosquito coils, and one truck, with an estimated market value of Tk 13,188,020 (thirteen million one hundred eighty-eight thousand twenty taka).
According to BGB sources, on April 23, the Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB) conducted four separate successful operations in the border areas of Sreemangal, Chunarughat, and Madhabpur upazilas. The details of the operations are as follows:
At approximately 7:30 AM, a special patrol team from the 55 BGB, acting on secret information, took a strategic position about five kilometers inside Bangladesh in the Jagdishpur Muktijoddha Square area of Madhabpur upazila, Habiganj district. While there, they spotted a sand-laden truck coming from Sylhet on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway and signaled it to stop. Sensing the presence of BGB, the driver abandoned the truck about 200 yards away and fled. Upon searching the truck, the BGB team discovered a large quantity of Indian cosmetics, Gillette blades, eyeglasses, and other concealed items under the sand and seized the truck.
In addition, separate anti-smuggling operations were conducted in the border areas under the responsibility of the Gutibari, Balla, and Montola BOPs of the 55 BGB. Smugglers fled the scene, abandoning their goods after noticing the presence of patrol teams. Upon searching the areas, the teams seized 24 bottles of Indian liquor, a large amount of Bitex Gold vitamins, and Bangladeshi mosquito coils.
Legal action has been taken against those involved in the smuggling. Multiple cases have been filed at the Sreemangal, Chunarughat, and Madhabpur police stations.
ILieutenant Colonel Md. Tanzilur Rahman, Commander of the 55 BGB, said, “The BGB is a symbol of security and trust on the border. Our primary goal is to ensure border security and keep society free from drugs.
