Bangladeshi citizen detained while entering to Meghalaya

Ripon Das, a Bangladeshi citizen, was detained by the Border Guard Battalion (BGB) while attempting to enter India's Meghalaya on Wednesday. 

He was handed over to the Sunamganj Sadar Model Police Station after a case was filed against him.

The detainee, Ripon, is the son of the late Krishnadhan Das of Janatari village in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj district.

Lieutenant Colonel AKM Zakaria Kadir, commander of the Sunamganj-28 Border Guard Battalion under the Sylhet sector of BGB, stated that on Tuesday evening, a BGB patrol team from Narayantala BOP apprehended Ripon near the Dolura-Balat border haat area of Sunamganj Sadar upazila.

During preliminary questioning by BGB, Ripon admitted that he was attempting to cross the border to visit a relative's house in Shillong, Meghalaya, India. He also confessed to being involved in the smuggling of Indian cosmetics.
