Timely and responsible intervention by members of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP successfully prevented the child marriage of a schoolgirl in Monirampur upazila of Jashore district.
The incident took place on Saturday evening (August 29) in Dangamahishdia village under Kultia union of Monirampur.
According to Ansar-VDP sources, preparations had been finalized to marry off Habibur Rahman's 15-year-old minor daughter—a local school student—to Md. Hasan Ali, an expatriate and son of Kader Ali from Daulatpur village under Jhikargachha upazila.
Upon receiving information about the illegal ceremony, an 8 to 10-member team of dedicated Ansar-VDP personnel, led by 15 No. Kultia Union Team Leader Md. Rabiul Islam, rushed to the scene.
Arriving at the venue, the Ansar-VDP members engaged with the guardians of both parties. They detailed the legal consequences of child marriage and highlighted its severe adverse impacts on the minor's education, health, safety, and future. Recognizing the legal risks, both families agreed to call off the wedding.
Subsequently, the girl's family provided a written undertaking and bond pledging not to marry her off under any circumstances until she reaches the legal age of 18, successfully safeguarding the promising student's future.
The local administration was promptly notified of the development. Monirampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer commended the Ansar-VDP personnel for their prompt response, commendable initiative, and effective role in preventing child marriage.
Such proactive measures by the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party continue to win widespread acclaim across the country, playing a vital role in building a safe, aware, and child-marriage-free society through community engagement.
