In the past two weeks, 12 people have died unnaturally in various incidents including 4 murders, two suicides, death by falling into water, electrocution and road accidents in Araihazar, Narayanganj.
The procession of deaths in all these incidents has taken a very large shape in the last two weeks. It is known that there is also a case of death due to accidental consumption of kerosene oil.
On the night of September 26, an old woman named Sarna Begum (70) was killed by slitting her throat on the roof of Jahangir Textile Mill in Duptara area of Duptara Union of the upazila. Police recovered her body and arrested one person on suspicion of involvement in the incident and sent him to jail. After this, Sohel Ahmed (32), a top terrorist and Ward No. 3 member of Brahmandi UP, was killed in a mob lynching on Monday morning.
The deceased Sohel is the son of Maqbul of Baliapara village in Brandi union. He was involved in Awami League politics. Police said that there were 12-13 cases against him, including murder and robbery. Local residents said that during the previous fascist Awami League era, Sohel had established a reign of terror under the umbrella of UP Chairman Lak Mia. When the fascist Awami League government fell on August 5, 2024, Sohel went into hiding. However, he recently returned to the area and started extortion again. The locals got angry and thrashed Sohel, killing him on the spot. On the night of September 30, robber Nabi Hossain (35) was caught by the mob while robbing a house in the Dori Bshinandi Kanthaltola area of Bishnandi union in the upazila and was killed in a mob beating. He is the son of Lokman alias Laikya Hosner of Bishnandi village in Bishnandi union. On the morning of October 5, a young man named Emon (23) was seriously injured in an attack by thieves in the Marwadi area of Brahmandi Union of the upazila. Emon died on October 7 while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, on the afternoon of October 5, a school student named Wasim (13) was killed by lightning in Hoglakandi village of Kalapahariya Union surrounded by Meghna in the upazila. He is the son of Dila Mia of that village. A day later, on the afternoon of October 6, Nirob (12), a 5th grade student, son of expatriate Nazmul of Nayapara Totarbag village of Haijadi Union of the upazila, was killed by lightning on his way home from the field while playing football. On the night of October 6, Mansura (30), wife of expatriate Nabihossein of Malaya, hanged herself in the Khagkanda Chakerbari area of Khagkanda Union of the upazila. She is the daughter of the deceased Islam Mia of the same village. On the same day, an unidentified woman died in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Purinda area of the upazila. On the morning of October 7, a child named Alif (3) was killed on the spot after being hit by a truck filled with sand in Panchani area of Khagkanda union of the upazila. The deceased child Alif is the son of Awlad Hossain of the same village. On October 10, a 4-year-old child died after falling into water in Purinda area of the upazila. On the other hand, on the morning of October 11, another child named Jihad (4) died after falling into water in Ramchandradi area of Gopaldi municipality of the upazila. He is the son of Khared of the same village. Apart from this, on October 10, a child died after accidentally consuming kerosene oil in Kadamtali area of Khagkanda union of the upazila. On the other hand, on October 9, a schoolgirl named Shurvi (14) was electrocuted while playing tik tok on the roof of her house in Binairchar area of the upazila, and her mother Rozina (30) died after being electrocuted while trying to save her. His grandmother was also seriously injured in the incident.
Araihazar Police Station OC Khandaker Nasiruddin said that the police station is aware of each incident and a proper investigation is underway into each incident.
