23 candidates lose security deposits in Sylhet

A total of 35 partisan and independent candidates contested from six constituencies of Sylhet in the January 7 general election, according to the district returning office.
Among them, Awami League nominated candidates won in five constituencies and an independent candidate won in the rest one constituency.
Of the remaining 29 candidates, 23 lost their security deposits as they failed to secure 8 per cent of the total cast votes in their respective constituency.
Among them, current lawmaker Gono Forum nominated candidate Mokabbir Khan and Jatiya Party lawmaker and the party nominated candidate Yahiya Chowdhury, who had contested from Sylhet-2 constituency, lost their security deposits.
