Protest rally against women's oppression, rape at NSTU

Muhd. Abdullah Al Nayeem, NSTU

A torchlight procession and protest rally was held at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) in protest of the nationwide oppression and rape of women on Friday evening.

Sudents took position at the central Shaheed Minar. From there, they started a torchlight procession and circled the entire campus. During the procession, they chanted various slogans such as, "There will be no place for rapists in this country," "Direct action against rapists," "No, no, violence against women will not be tolerated." After the procession, the students again took position at the central Shaheed Minar.

At this time, a student named Moyuri Noor said, "The oppression and torture that is going on against women all over Bangladesh is very sad. Not only women's torture, but the anarchy that is prevailing in the whole country, we are angry and disappointed with the interim government. We gained independence through the movement of '24, we hoped that the government would listen to us and take measures to prevent torture. But that has not been reflected."

A student named Mujtaba Faisal Naeem said, "Today is International Mother Language Day. We have to stand here because we have not been able to create a safe society for the mother from whom we learn our mother tongue.
