An emergency meeting was held at the Faridpur Regional Election Officer's office on Wednesday afternoon demanding the repeal of the National Identity Registration Act (Repeal) Ordinance 2025.

Election Commission officials working in 5 districts of Greater Faridpur were present at the time.

Speakers at the meeting said that if the National Identity Registration Act (Repeal) Ordinance 2025 is enacted and implemented, the constitutional power of the Election Commission to manage elections, including the preparation of voter lists, will be curtailed and the Election Commission will have to rely on civil registration to obtain data for the preparation of voter lists, which is also against the independent existence of the Election Commission as provided for in the Constitution.

In addition, if the national identity card is registered with the civil registration, voting will be hindered due to the mismatch between the voter list information and the national identity card information and there will be disruptions in the conduct of the election. In addition, there is a fear of destroying the integrity of the database and the right to privacy of citizens' information may be violated.

The speakers also said that if the national identity card is registered with the civil registration, updating of the voter list will be hindered and there will be disruptions in the next parliamentary elections.
