
Smuggler arrested with gold bars from Jibannagar border

Members of BGB's 58th Battalion have arrested a smuggler named Alamgir Hossain with 3 gold bars worth 50 lakh taka from Jibannagar border in Chuadanga.
He was arrested at around 1 pm on Wednesday in front of the Simanta Union Parishad of Jibannagar upazila. The arrested Alamgir is the son of Ishaq Mandal of Naba-Durgapur village of the same upazila.
In a press release sent to the press on Wednesday night, BGB's 58th Battalion Assistant Director and Acting Quartermaster Mohammad Saiful Islam gave this information.
In the release, the BGB said that based on information from civilian sources, a patrol team of Jibannagar BOP under Maheshpur 58th Battalion arrested Alamgir Hossain with a battery-powered van from the paved road in front of the Simanta Union Parishad and brought him to the camp.
Although the man initially did not confess to anything, when his body was later searched, 3 pieces of gold bars wrapped in scotch tape were recovered. The weight of the recovered gold is 349.33 grams. The estimated market value of the recovered gold is eight hundred and forty-two lakhs and four hundred and six taka.
The BGB further said that a case has been filed against the arrested accused at Jibannagar Police Station. The process of depositing the gold bars at the Government District Treasury, Chuadanga through the court is under process.
