 Khagrachhari Correspondent

A complaint has been filed against Headmaster Catalina Chakma for severely beating a 5th grade student named Bablu Tripura in Khagrachhari for not wearing boots at school, resulting in the breaking of his lower jaw teeth.

The incident took place at Gachban Government Primary School in Sadar Upazila of Khagrachhari.

A ground investigation revealed that on Thursday, April 24, during the afternoon of the class at Gachban Government Primary School, Headmaster Catalina Chakma beat a 5th grade student named Bablu Tripura and broke his teeth because he was not wearing boots.  Later, when the incident came to light, on April 28, the guardians and the entire Gakhaban locality blocked the school, demanding punishment for the head teacher, Catalina Chakma, and demanded her immediate removal.

The injured Bablu Tripura said that on Thursday,
for not wearing shoes in class, the head teacher, Catalina Chakma, beat him severely with a book. At one point, a tooth in the lower leg was broken due to the impact of the hard part of the book.

Menuka Tripura, on behalf of the guardians of all the students, filed a written complaint with the Chairman of the Hill District Council, Khagrachhari. In the written complaint, she said that on April 24, 2025, every Thursday during school, Bablu Tripura was beaten by his head teacher, Catalina Chakma, and his tooth was broken.

As this incident became known, panic arose among the guardians and teachers. Currently, Bablu Tripura is suffering from illness due to physical abuse. Therefore, she demanded that immediate action be taken against the head teacher, Catalina Chakma, through a proper investigation of this incident.

When I went to Gachban Government Primary School to inquire about this, the head teacher, Catalina Chakma, could not be found at the school. Later, when I tried to contact her several times on my mobile phone, she said that she was out of school now and could not talk about the incident. She was lobbying for a transfer to another school.

Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila Assistant Education Officer Sambal Chakma said, I have come to know about the incident of a 5th grade student being beaten and his teeth broken at Gachban Government Primary School. After learning about the incident of the school's residents blocking the head teacher on April 28, I went to the school and talked to the residents and tried to calm them down. Since physical or mental harm to students is a punishable crime, I have informed my higher authorities about the matter, and we are waiting for the orders of the higher authorities.

Khagrachhari District Primary Education Officer Shafiqul Islam said on his mobile phone, I have come to know about the incident, but I have learned that the guardians have filed a complaint with the Khagrachhari District Council Chairman.  No decision has been taken on this matter yet.

Khagrachari Hill District Council Chairman JirunaTripura said, I have received a written complaint in this regard, an investigation team has been formed. He said that if the investigation proves the truth of the incident, disciplinary action will be taken against him.
