There have been allegations of construction of shops in the dark of night in front of the Sarvajanin Sri Sri Radha Govinda and Sri Sri Raksha Kali temple in Baligaon Bazar of Tongibari Upazila of Munshiganj recently . In the wake of this incident, the Puja Udjapan Parishad has demanded the removal of the shop.
The leaders of the Puja Udjavan Parishad alleged that the construction of shops in front of the temple will disrupt the worship and religious ceremonies. The president of the Parishad, Keshav Ghosh, said, “The area in front of the temple was open for public movement. The construction of shops in the dark of night will create serious problems during the puja. Therefore, we want this house to be removed.”
Regarding the complaint, shop owner Anik Vaidya said that their family has been doing business in that place for a long time. He said, “My grandfather used to do business here. Later, my father and uncle came to do business. We built a shop here because the government gave us a settlement.”
However, other traders in the market disagreed. Many said that the Baidya family has been operating in the open for a long time, but this time they have built a shop in the dark of night. Baligaon Union BNP President and market trader Abu Sayeed Mia said, “If they have built shops legally, then why do they have to build houses in the dark of night? We strongly condemn and protest against this kind of secret construction.”
Meanwhile, some traders in the market claimed that the Anik Baidya family has been doing business there for a long time. Earlier, there was no house, but now they have built a house.
Locals say that there has already been tension in the market over the establishment of shops in front of the temple. The local administration needs to take quick action to resolve the issue.
Although attempts were made to contact Tongibari Upazila Commissioner (Land) Wazed Wasif on his mobile phone several times, he could not be reached.
