Press Council Chairman urges Pirojpur journalists to avoid yellow journalism

The Chairman of the Bangladesh Press Council, Justice AKM Abdul Hakim, has called on media workers to move away from partisan influences, avoid sensationalism and yellow journalism, and focus on delivering independent, impartial, and objective news. He emphasized that the media is the fourth pillar of a nation, and its primary responsibility is to present news with integrity. Freedom is deeply ingrained in the essence of newspapers and journalists.
These remarks were made during his speech as the chief guest at a training workshop organized by the Bangladesh Press Council on “Preventing Yellow Journalism in Media and Promoting Objective News Reporting” held on Monday morning at the Pirojpur Circuit House conference room.
The chief guest further stated that politics is a personal matter, but professionalism requires adherence to ethics and morality. Journalists must refrain from injecting personal opinions into their work to enhance the credibility of their reports. He urged journalists to abandon aggressive attitudes and change their perspectives. Each media outlet has its own code of conduct, which journalists must follow. Additionally, they should avoid media trials, respect the legal system, and refrain from presenting misleading information. Everyone must adhere to the code of conduct.
The workshop, chaired by Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashraful Alam, Press Council Secretary Md. Abdus Sabur, Pirojpur Police Superintendent Khan Mohammad Abu Naser, and Deputy Director of the District Information Office Parikshit Chowdhury spoke on the occasion.
At the conclusion of the training, certificates were distributed by chief guest Justice AKM Abdul Hakim to media workers from Pirojpur’s print and electronic media. Later, the Press Council Chairman met with local journalists from various print and electronic media at the Pirojpur Press Club in a courtesy visit
