“Debate means logic, science means liberation”—with this slogan, the 11th National Science Debate Festival 2025, organized by Bangladesh Freedom Foundation and Samakal, was held in Satkhira to illuminate the intellect, reasoning, and creativity of the young generation.

The event took place on Friday (October 3) from 10 am to 12 pm at the Satkhira Central Public Library auditorium, which was abuzz with lively discussions on science and vibrant participation from enthusiastic students.

The festival was presided over by Prof. Dr. Dilara Begum, former Principal of Satkhira Government Women’s College. Among the distinguished guests were Prof. Basudev Basu, Principal of Satkhira Government College; Prof. Alok Kumar Banerjee, Principal of Government Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah College; Prof. Momena Khanom of Nalta Ahsania Residential College; Assistant Professor Mohiuddin Ahmed of Kumira Women’s College; Md. Anisur Rahman, former Head Teacher of Satkhira Government Girls’ High School; journalist S.M. Shahidul Islam; President of Samakal Suhrito Samabesh Satkhira District Branch Md. Abdus Samad; General Secretary Asadul Islam; along with prominent educationists and members of the civil society.

Four institutions reached the semifinals—Satkhira Government High School, Satkhira Government Girls’ High School, Satkhira Police Lines Secondary School, and Dhulihar-Brahmarajpur (D.B.) Girls’ Secondary School. The semifinal debates showcased students’ intelligence and perspectives on contemporary challenges. Group A debated on “Unrestricted internet use is leading students astray,” while Group B focused on “Social media is diverting students away from textbooks.”

The final round centered on a pressing social issue: “To stop polythene use, awareness is more important than law.” After an intense contest, Satkhira Police Lines Secondary School emerged as the champion. Guests presented prizes and certificates to the winners and participants, expressing hope for a brighter, enlightened Bangladesh shaped by today’s youth.

Speakers noted that debate is not merely a competition but a unique process of learning. This realization was vividly reflected in the participants, who demonstrated that logic enlightens people while science brings freedom.
