Jamaat leaders, activists repair dilapidated road in Dimla

Mohammad Ali Sanu, Dimla (Nilphamari)

Dimla upazila, leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami have stepped forward to repair the severely damaged road in the Gayabari Union through voluntary labour in Dimla recently.

The initiative was inaugurated by Principal Maulana Abdus Sattar, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Nilphamari district and nominated candidate for the Domar-Dimla parliamentary constituency, who personally joined the workers in filling the potholes.

For a long time, heavy sand-loaded trucks and trolleys caused large craters along the Gayabari road, leading to extreme suffering for commuters and posing serious risks of accidents. Recently, Rofiqul Islam, secretary of the Dimla unit of the Labour Welfare Federation, lost his life in a road accident at this very spot. Following the tragedy, local residents demanded urgent repair of the road.

Responding to the appeal, Jamaat leaders and activists carried out the repair work through voluntary effort.

Local residents expressed their relief, saying, “We had informed public representatives several times, but for unknown reasons, the road was never repaired. Today Jamaat leaders have come forward to ease our long-standing suffering.”

Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Abdus Sattar said, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is not merely a religious-political party, but a welfare-oriented Islamic movement.
