National Fisheries Fortnight 2026 has been inaugurated in Chapainawabganj with a series of vibrant programs centered around the theme: "Silver fisheries make a self-reliant country, Bangladesh first."

The observance featured the release of fish fry, a colorful rally, a discussion meeting, and an award distribution ceremony.

On Sunday morning, Deputy Commissioner Abu Saleh Md. Musa Jangi formally inaugurated the fortnight by releasing balloons and festoons in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises.

The inaugural event was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) N.M. Wasim Firoz, Civil Surgeon Dr. A.K.M. Shahab Uddin, District Fisheries Officer Md. Shahinur Rahman, along with officials from various government departments, fish farmers, local fishers, and individuals from diverse professions.

Following the inauguration, a colorful road rally paraded through the main thoroughfares of the town, starting and concluding at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Later, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office.

Speakers at the meeting highlighted the vital significance of the fisheries sector in ensuring national economic stability and nutritional security. They urged fishers and farmers to be more vigilant in boosting fish production, conserving native fish species, and producing safe fish.

At the conclusion of the program, crests were awarded to outstanding fish farmers in recognition of their contributions. Earlier in the day, various species of fish fry were released into the pond at the Sadar Upazila Parishad premises.
