Awareness seminar on conservation of fisheries resources held in Boalkhali

Keeping in mind the slogan of 'Rupali Fisheries is a self-reliant country, Bangladesh comes first', a motivational seminar and exchange meeting on conservation of fisheries resources, proper management and sustainable production was held in Boalkhali, Chattogram on the occasion of National Fisheries Week-2026.
The seminar was held at the Swadhinata Hallroom of Boalkhali Upazila Parishad at 11 am on Sunday at the initiative of the Upazila Fisheries Department.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Shahanur Islam was the chief guest at the meeting held under the chairmanship of Upazila Fisheries Officer Naeem Hasan.
Boalkhali Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Mamun, Boalkhali Rural Development Officer Md. Zahirul Islam, Boalkhali election officer Tanushree Goswami, Senior member of Chattogram South District BNP Md. Shawkat Alam, Chairman of Boalkhali Upazila BRDB and Senior Joint Convener of Upazila BNP Alhaj Mohammad Nurunnabi Chowdhury, Former Convener of Municipality BNP Shahidullah Chowdhury, Former Vice-President of Upazila BNP M. Kamal Uddin, Senior Journalist Mojahidul Islam and Panel Chairman Muhammad Hasan Chowdhury.
The seminar discussed various aspects of proper use of fishery resources, breeding and conservation of indigenous fish, protecting the environment of water bodies, stopping illegal fishing and increasing fish production. The speakers emphasized the awareness and active participation of fishermen, fish farmers and the general public in addition to government initiatives to protect fishery resources.
Officials of various government departments of Boalkhali Upazila, journalists, fishermen and concerned persons were present at the time.
The speakers said that fishery resources are one of the most important sectors of the country's economy, nutrition and employment.
