In July this year, heavy rains and mountain runoff upstream caused a severe breach in the vulnerable defense embankment along the Manu River in Ujirpur, Tengra Union of Rajnagar Upazila, leading to devastating floods that impacted thousands of residents. Kamarchak Union, situated along the riverbanks, emerged as one of the hardest-hit areas. To support the victims, 500 affected families in the union received food supplies and financial assistance from the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.

M. Naser Rahman, MP for Moulvibazar-3 (Sadar-Rajnagar) constituency, formally handed over the relief materials to the affected families in Kamarchak Union as the chief guest on Saturday noon.

The relief distribution event was chaired by Mizanur Rahman, Chairman of the Moulvibazar District Unit of the Red Crescent Society and Administrator of the District Council. Special guests included Baksi Misbah ur Rahman, General Secretary of the Moulvibazar District Unit Red Crescent Society and Convener of the Moulvibazar Press Club, as well as Rajnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Bipul Sikder.

Also present at the event were Moulvibazar District BNP Convening Committee members Moulvi Abdul Wali Siddiqui, M. A. Mukit, Fakhrul Islam, and Helu Miah; Rajnagar Upazila BNP President Nurul Islam Selun and General Secretary Master Abbas Ali; and Moulvibazar Sadar Thana BNP Organizational Secretary Kajol Mahmud.

Addressing the event as chief guest, Naser Rahman stated that flood-affected families had previously received aid from both the government and the District Council. Since Kamarchak Union suffered the most severe damage, the Red Crescent Society stepped forward with targeted assistance. He noted that the beneficiary list was not created along political lines; instead, Red Crescent representatives visited households directly to prepare an accurate roster. He expressed his gratitude to the Red Crescent Society for standing by vulnerable families in his constituency.

According to Red Crescent Society sources, after Kamarchak Union was identified as the most affected area in Rajnagar Upazila, a joint team from the Red Crescent Society Dhaka and Moulvibazar District Units—supported by the local upazila administration—conducted household assessments. They listed 500 affected families across the villages of Shyamerkona, Karaiya, Noagaon, Jalalpur, Gobindapur, Islampur, and Khas Premnagar.

Each listed family received a food package containing rice, lentils, sugar, salt, semolina, and 1 liter of soybean oil. In addition, each family received 8,000 BDT via bKash, bringing the total value of assistance distributed to 4,000,000 BDT.

The flash flood had caught residents along the Manu River off guard as floodwaters rapidly submerged homes. Many lost all belongings—including stored grain, clothing, and furniture—to the rushing currents. Livestock, poultry, and roofing materials were also swept away, while seedbeds and crop fields were ruined.
