The British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BBCCI) has announced plans to set up a "British-Bangladesh Trade Centre" in London aimed at strengthening trade, investment, and bilateral commercial ties between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.

The proposed centre will serve as an active platform to connect entrepreneurs and businesses from both nations, facilitate investments, and build strategic commercial partnerships.

The announcement was made during the BBCCI Business Reception 2026 and the inauguration ceremony of its newly -elected executive committee, held at the Ivy Hill Hotel in London recently.

According to chamber officials, the primary objective of the trade centre is to support companies seeking entry or expansion into the UK and Bangladeshi markets. It will organize targeted initiatives focused on trade promotion, investment facilitation, entrepreneurship development, and bilateral cooperation.

"The trade centre is an initiative to step beyond conventional networking and create tangible, practical opportunities for business community members," said Musleh Ahmed, Director General of BBCCI. "Our goal is to turn connections between British and Bangladeshi enterprises into real trade and foster new market opportunities".

He added that the platform would allow entrepreneurs to discover mutual interests, explore untapped markets, and expand their businesses through joint ventures.

Muhib Chowdhury, President of BBCCI, highlighted that the proposed trade centre reflects the chamber's vision of becoming a modern and ambitious organization capable of driving economic growth across borders. He reaffirmed that the BBCCI will continue to play a pioneering role in building stronger economic links between the two countries.

Dr M Nazrul Islam, Acting High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the UK, attended the event as the keynote speaker.

The reception was attended by key BBCCI advisers including Dr Wali Tasar Uddin, Ahmad Us Samad Chowdhury JP, and Saidur Rahman Renu; former presidents Bashir Ahmed BEM and Rafique Haider; North West Region Chairman Mizanur Rahman Mizan; and London Region Chairman Shafiqul Islam.

Prominent attendees and community leaders present included BBCCI Director Atahir Khan, UK Judge Nazrul Khasru, Dr Zakir Khan, London Bangla Press Club President Tareq Chowdhury, Imperial College London Clinical Lecturer Dr Manzur Shawkat, BBPI founder Councillor Abdal Ullah, BCA President Oli Khan, Channel S founder Mahi Ferdous Jalil, NTV Europe CEO Sabrina Hossain, Curry Life Editor-in-Chief Syed Nahas Pasha, Bangladesh Centre Secretary Delwar Hossain, and former Mayor of Harrow Salim Chowdhury.

With growing demand among businesses to access global markets and establish strategic joint ventures, the proposed trade centre is expected to play a crucial role in deepening economic engagement and acting as a central hub for UK–Bangladesh commerce in the coming years.
