Abdur Rahim, Companiganj ( Noakhali)
Two siblings, Adriba (8) and Turya (4), who were burnt to death in an explosion caused by a gas line leak in Companiganj Upazila of Noakhali, died while undergoing treatment. After brother Turya died at the intensive care unit of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka on Thursday (October 9), sister Adrita also died at the same hospital on Saturday at 2:15 pm.
Earlier, on October 1, at around 8 pm, a gas leak caused an explosion in a rented house on the second floor of Rahat Manzil on Modern Road, Ward No. 8 of Basurhat Municipality in the upazila. In this, four people, including two children and their parents, were burnt and injured.
Kumod Chandra Nath, the father of the two deceased children, confirmed the matter and said that the gas leakage was due to the open gas stove valve in the kitchen line, causing gas to accumulate in the entire house. At that time, when a lamp was lit on the floor of a room in the house for worship, the gas exploded. The explosion shattered a wall and window panes of the house. At that time, Kumud Nath (44), his wife Sabita Rani Nath (32), their baby daughter Adriba (8) and son Turya (3) were burned. They were first given primary treatment at the Companiganj Upazila Health Complex and then sent to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka.
Gazi Foujul Azim, OC of Companiganj Police Station, said that the family members informed about the deaths of the two children who were burnt due to gas leakage.
