The district BNP biennial conference is going to be held in Netrokona after a long 11 years. 

A total of five leaders are contesting for the posts of president and general secretary in this conference to be held at the Moktarpara ground in the city tomorrow, Saturday (August 30). 

The new leadership will be determined through the votes of 1,515 councilors of 10 upazilas and 5 municipal committees. According to party sources, in the last biennial conference on October 25, 2014, Ashraf Uddin Khan was elected president, Dr. Anwarul Haque general secretary and SM Moniruzzaman Dudu organizing secretary.

 Later, after the committee was approved and dissolved, the party was run by a 67-member convening committee. This conference is being held again after a long 11 years. The current convener of the district BNP, Dr. Md. Anwarul Haque (umbrella) and former general secretary of the district BNP, Advocate Mahfuzul Haque (chair), are contesting for the post of president.

 The candidate for the post of general secretary is Dr. Rafiqul Islam Hilali (fish), SM Moniruzzaman Dudu (ball) and Abdullah Al Mamun Khan Roni (bull cart). The party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman will be the chief guest at the conference through virtual means. BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed will inaugurate it. Assistant Election Commissioner Lawyer Sirajul Islam Khokon said that the leadership of two posts will be elected through direct voting of the councilors. 

All preparations have already been made to complete the conference smoothly and successfully at the Moktarpara ground.Party leaders said that as the conference is being held after a long time, there is a festive atmosphere among the leaders and workers. As the attempt to reach a compromise failed, the leadership is being selected through voting.

 Presidential candidates Dr. Md. Anwarul Haque and Advocate Mahfuzul Haque and General Secretary candidates Dr. Rafiqul Islam Hilali, S.M. Moniruzzaman Dudu and Abdullah Al Mamun Khan Rony have expressed their hope for the support of the voters by emphasizing their qualifications and contributions to the party. The excitement of the conference is clearly visible in the banners, festoons and placards of the candidates in different areas of the city.
