5 illegally established shrimp farms freed in Sonadia, Ghatibhanga in joint operation

The Moheshkhali Upazila administration, Navy, police, and Forest Department have freed 5 illegally established shrimp farms in Sonadia and Ghatibhanga.

On Friday (29 August) at 4 PM, the operation destroyed 5 structures of the shrimp farms and 5 sluice gates.

Present at the operation were Additional Secretary (Development) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Md Khairul Hasan, Moheshkhali UNO Md Hedayet Ullah, Contingent Commander of Navy, OC of Moheshkhali Police Station Md Manzurul Haque and range officer.

Additional Secretary (Development) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Md Khairul Hasan, stated that illegally occupying shrimp farms by cutting down mangroves is a legal offense, and all illegally established shrimp farms will be destroyed.

Moheshkhali UNO Md Hedayet Ullah said, the operation wil continue and on 29 August five structures of the shrimp farms and five sluice gates have been demolished in the joint operation.
