A huge civic rally against drugs, illegal sand mining and terrorism has been held in Sujanagar, Pabna. The rally was organized by the upazila administration on Sunday afternoon at Sujanagar Bazar.

At the beginning of the event, Pabna-2 constituency MP and BNP leader AKM Selim Reza Habib gave a stern warning, saying, "No one who is involved in drugs, illegal sand mining, extortion or terrorist activities will come on this stage. They have no place in this rally."

Speaking as the chief guest at the rally held under the chairmanship of Pabna Deputy Commissioner Aminul Islam, MP Selim Reza Habib said, "Today, July 5, is the last day for extortionists, squatters and drug dealers in Sujanagar and Bera upazilas. We are not willing to give anyone any concessions in such criminal activities. Four special committees have already been formed in each union of this region to curb crime. A list of area-based drug addicts, drug dealers, extortionists, squatters and those involved in the arbitration trade has been prepared.

Addressing the administration, the MP said, "Do not give any concessions to drug dealers or any criminals. No matter what political leaders or powerful people recommend, you will take strict action according to the law."

Speaking as a special guest at the rally, Pabna Superintendent of Police Md. Sufi Ullah said, "Drugs are closely related to other crimes. As a result of the spread of drugs, terrorist activities like theft, robbery and armed robbery increase in the area. Everyone has to work together to prevent this social disease.

Regarding bail and punishment, he said, "Many times, criminals get bail quickly from the court after being arrested and then commit the same crime again. We have held meetings with learned judges to resolve this complication. Currently, punishment of drug addicts and criminals is being ensured through the speedy trial system."

Among others who spoke at the rally were Pabna NSI Joint Director Toufiq Iqbal, Ansar and VDP District Commandant Mahbur Rahman Sarkar, District Narcotics Control Department Deputy Director Shahidul Mannaf Kabir, RAB Company Commander Md. Wahiduzzaman, Pabna Press Club President Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar, Sujanagar Upazila Executive Officer Mir Rasheduzzaman, Bera Upazila Executive Officer Runalt Chakma and other individuals at various levels.
