Month-long cleanliness, anti-drug campaign begins in Pirojpur
Zubaer, Pirojpur
Pirojpur Zila Parishad on Sunday morning launched a month-long cleanliness, tree plantation, and anti-drug campaign 2026. The initiative aims to protect the environment and prevent the outbreak of mosquito- and fly-borne diseases, including dengue, chikungunya, and measles.
To mark the launch, a colourful rally commenced from the Palpara area of the town, paraded through major streets, and concluded in front of the Pirojpur Town Club.
Principal Alamgir Hossain, the administrator of Pirojpur Zila Parishad, officially inaugurated the comprehensive program. Local public representatives, scout members, volunteers from the social organization 'Positive Pirojpur', and residents from all walks of life spontaneously participated in the rally and subsequent cleanup drive.
In his inaugural address, Principal Alamgir Hossain emphasized that active civic participation is crucial to maintaining public hygiene. He stated that it is impossible for the municipality alone to keep the entire town free of waste without the direct cooperation of its citizens. He urged residents to abandon the habit of dumping garbage into open drains or street corners, stressing that using designated dustbins is the only viable alternative.
To ensure the long-term sustainability of this initiative, the Zila Parishad and the municipality will jointly deploy dedicated cleanliness workers across every neighborhood.
A nominal monthly fee of Tk 100 has been set for door-to-door household waste collection. Furthermore, area-based monitoring committees comprising local youth will be formed to supervise the waste management process, and the Zila Parishad will soon introduce a specialized waste-disposal vehicle to accelerate the town's cleaning operations.
"If we do not strictly practice throwing garbage into dustbins, our streets will never remain clean," Principal Alamgir Hossain remarked. "A collective civic effort is imperative to secure a healthy future for ourselves and our children."
Pirojpur Municipality and several local volunteer groups are providing full logistic support to the Zila Parishad for this campaign. In a bid to motivate the public, Principal Alamgir Hossain directly joined the workers to clear clogged roadside drains, generating significant enthusiasm among locals.
The authorities expressed optimism that this month-long campaign will successfully transform Pirojpur into a model clean city.
