A madrasa teacher has been arrested in Patiya upazila of Chattogram for repeatedly sexually abusing an eight-year-old student over the past year. Three other students of the same institution have also been accused of aiding in the continuous abuse.
The main accused, identified as 20-year-old madrasa teacher Aziz Ullah, was apprehended by the police on Saturday after the incident sparked widespread outrage in the local community.
According to local and police sources, the victim, a second-grade student at the Azizia Naziria Tahfizul Quran Madrasa in the Ishwarkhain Chowdhurypara area of Dhalghat Union, had been suffering from severe physical complications. Initially suspecting the illness to be piles-related, his family took him to a physician. Following medical examinations, the doctor ruled out piles and expressed strong suspicion that the child had been subjected to sexual assault.
Upon being questioned by his family, the child disclosed that he had been repeatedly abused by the teacher, Aziz Ullah, over the last year, and that three other students of the madrasa had assisted the teacher in committing the crime.
Police officials revealed that when the victim's family initially approached the madrasa authorities, the teachers attempted to hush up the matter. The authorities reportedly urged the parents not to pursue legal action, claiming that a police case would permanently ruin the reputation of the institution and force its closure.
Confirming the arrest, Patiya Police Station OC Ziaul Haque said, upon learning of the incident, law enforcement swiftly arrested Aziz Ullah and forwarded him to the court under Section 54. The other three accused students have been ordered to appear at the police station for questioning.
