Human chain demanding permanent embankment to prevent erosion in Tongibari

Tongibari Munshiganj Correspondent

Locals have formed a human chain in Chausar village of Kamarkhara union in Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj demanding a permanent solution to river erosion.

On Friday at 11 am, more than five hundred men and women participated in the human chain in the river erosion area adjacent to Baitul Aman Jame Mosque in Chausar and Junisa.

Locals said that Chausar village, located on a tributary of the Padma, has been under threat of river erosion for a long time. Many houses, croplands and trees have already disappeared into the riverbed. The intensity of river erosion increases further during the monsoon season, resulting in panic among the villagers.

Speakers at the human chain said, “Every year we are victims of erosion. Despite repeated promises, no permanent solution has been found. We want a permanent embankment to be constructed immediately.”

They also said that although there are permanent embankments on the east and west sides of Chausar village, no permanent embankment has been taken in the 1-kilometer area of our village that has been eroded. We want our village to be protected through permanent embankments as soon as possible.

In addition to people from different classes and professions, students and senior citizens also participated in the human chain. They urged the concerned government departments to take immediate action.
