The newly- appointed Vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University (RU) Saleh Hasan Naqeeb joined on Thursday afternoon. He is a professor in the Physics Department of this university.

The Chancellor of the University President Md. Sahabuddin appointed him to the post of Vice-Chancellor. During joining, the treasurer of the university, Professor Md. Obaydur Rahman Pramanik, Sheikh Saad Ahmed along with faculty director, department president and office head, teachers, officials, employees and students were present. Some of them gave their greetings there.

The Vice-Chancellor expects the full cooperation of all concerned including teachers, officials-employees, students and parents in the management of the administration along with keeping the education and research activities of the university uninterrupted. He also expressed his confidence to develop Rajshahi University into an ideal knowledge center of the country. He mentioned that he also expects constructive criticism to perform his duties properly.

Later he was martyred. He prayed at Shamsujjohar's tomb.

Note that the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Saleh Hasan Naqeeb is a physicist. He was born in 1970 in Rajshahi. Passed SSC in 1987 and HSC in 1989 from Rajshahi Education Board and received B.Sc (Hons) in Physics in 1992 and MSc in 1993 from Rajshahi University. He obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2003 on a Commonwealth Scholarship. He obtained first division and first class in all examinations during his educational career.

In 1997, he joined Rajshahi University as a lecturer in the Department of Physics and in 2011, he was promoted to the rank of Professor. His research interests include superconductivity and related fields.

Professor Naqeeb participated in a significant number of international conferences and seminars and presented papers at various times. So far, about 175 of his research articles have been published at home and abroad. He also supervised several researches. His number of citations is about 5 thousand.

He is an elected teachers' representative member of Rajshahi University Senate. He is also a fellow and member of several other national and international research, development and professional organizations including World Academy of Sciences and Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. He is one of the editorial board members of Journal of Scientific Research and Rajshahi University Journal of Science and Engineering.

In personal life, he is the father of two daughters. His wife Dr. Raihana Shams Islam RU,s is a professor in the Department of Physics.
