A rally of Basod was held at Shapla Chattar in Rangpur city on Tuesday on Dhaka-Teesta Barrage Road stretch to demand a fair share of the water of 54 different rivers of the country including the Teesta and protection of the Teesta.

The Leaders said in the gathering that the rivers coming down from the upstream country are protecting the country's seasonality, foliage and agriculture.

But India has adopted an aggressive policy by unilaterally withdrawing water from 49 upstream dams in Bangladesh in the name of inter-river linkage projects, power generation and irrigation projects.

As a result, there is a shortage of water in these rivers during the dry season, causing serious disruption to irrigation in Boro cultivation. As there is no water in the rivers, the ground water level is gradually going down in the northern part of the country. As a result, arsenic levels are increasing, large fish resources are disappearing and the balance of the environment is being lost.

They said that Bangladesh is going to become a desert because of the knee-jerk foreign policy of the current divisive fascist government. The Durbar movement should be built against this aggressor. After the rally the road march proceeded to Teesta Barrage.
