25-kg deer vension seized from Sundarbans

The Forest Department has seized 25- kg of deer version and deer hunting traps from the Jongra area of the Sundarbans.
Chandpai Range Officer of the East Sundarbans Division, Dipan Chandra Das, said that on the basis of a secret tip-off, the forest guards conducted a raid deep in the forest behind the Jongra patrol camp on Sunday afternoon. Sensing the presence of the raiders, the poachers quickly fled deep into the forest. Later, the raiding team conducted a search at the spot and seized 25 kg of deer meat.
The seized deer meat included the head, legs and skin. A trap (thread/rope) used for deer hunting measuring about half a kilometer long was also seized.
Forest Officer Dipan Chandra Das said that although no one could be arrested in this incident, a case has been filed under the Forest Act.
The official said that a drive is being conducted to identify and arrest poachers.
