The engineers of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila have demanded safety in the workplace and prompt punishment for the attackers.

They raised these demands in a human chain program under the banner of LGED Engineers Family in front of the Sadar Upazila Parishad on Monday afternoon.

At that time, the engineers said that some engineers were present at the inauguration of the carpeting of the road in Shibganj of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila. At the moment the work started, some miscreants came and obstructed our work and demanded extortion. When we refused to pay the extortion, they attacked us at one point. When the matter was reported to the higher authorities, the miscreants attacked them along with Assistant Engineer Farhad Hossain Sourav when they went there. Although a complaint was filed with the Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station in this regard, the administration has not taken any action so far.

The speakers also said that we do government work. Such attacks on us and extortion demands are highly condemnable. However, attacks on engineers are happening not only in Thakurgaon but also in various districts and upazilas across the country. However, the administration is not taking any action against those attackers. If this continues, we are losing our freedom of work and are suffering from insecurity.

Protesting the attacks on engineers, the speakers demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice immediately.

Sadar Upazila Engineer Abdul Quader, Deputy Assistant Engineer Rashidul Islam, Rajibul Islam and other officials and employees of the department were present.
