
Dist law, order committee meet held : 10 murders, 31 cases of women, children abuse, 6 cases of rape in Cumilla in Feb

Ten murders were committed Cumilla , 31 cases of women and children abuse and 6 cases of rape were filed in different police stations in February in Cumilla.
23 cases of theft were filed in different areas of the district, 4 cases of robbery and 4 cases of banditry were filed. A total of 344 cases were filed in the district in February for various crimes.
This information was revealed in the working paper of the March District Law and Order Committee meeting held in the conference room of the Cumilla Deputy Commissioner's Office on Sunday Cumilla District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner Md. Amirul Kaiser presided over the meeting, which was attended by senior officials, heads and representatives of various departments, Upazila Executive Officers and representatives of civil society.
In the meeting of the Law and Order Committee, Deputy Commissioner Md. Amirul Kaiser, President of the committee, expressed his anger over the responsibility of the Water Development Board regarding the illegal excavation of soil from the area adjacent to the Gomti River embankment. He specifically drew the attention of Deputy Assistant Engineer Ashrafuzzaman and Assistant Revenue Officer Arifur Rahman of the Water Development Board present in the meeting and said that within the next seven days, the ramps (paths used to lift soil from the river bank and take it to the road) used while digging soil from the Gomti char should be destroyed with the help of excavators from the Cumilla City Corporation or the Roads and Townships Department. At this time, he instructed the Upazila Executive Officers to strictly manage the matter. Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Fatema Tuz Johra said in the meeting - Soil is being cut at 17 points of the Gumti River in Sadar Upazila.
We are constantly trying to stop soil traders by conducting mobile courts. The Water Development Board should take legal action against illegal soil traders. She also suggested setting up police check posts on the roads of the two neighborhoods of the river. Upazila Executive Officer Shahida Akhter and Sadar South Upazila Executive Officer Rubaiya Khanam drew the attention of the Water Development Board to the issue of soil cutting from the Gumti River and Kakri River.
The river is yours, the dam is yours, the soil is yours - we have to think. We must take action against the soil traders quickly or the Gumti River will bring disaster. Cumilla District Police Superintendent Md. Nazir Ahmed Khan said in the meeting, everyone should be aware of security on the occasion of Ramadan and Eid. You cannot take the law into your own hands by artificially creating a mob.
The district police have been working specifically on theft, robbery and muggings in recent times.
