N’ganj Chhatra Dal activist killed, youth arrested

A Chhatra Dal activist was stabbed to death in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila.

A young man suspected to be involved in the incident was beaten by locals and handed over to the police. The incident occurred on Sunday (March 9) at around 10:15 PM near the Shaheed Minar on Bhasha Sainik Road in the city, according to Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station OC Mohammad Nasir Ahmad.

On Monday morning (March 10), the victim's father, Mohammad Khokon, filed a murder case at Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station. Later, the arrested youth, Samrat, was shown as detained in connection with the case.

The deceased, Md. Apurba (25), was the son of Mohammad Khokon from the Masdair area of the city. He was a garment worker by profession, and his ancestral home was in Srinagar Upazila of Munshiganj, according to the police. However, Chhatra Dal has claimed Apurba as one of their activists.

The arrested youth, Samrat Hossain (20), is the son of Md. Hossain from the Gola Chipa area. He worked at a food shop on Bhasha Sainik Road. Police reported recovering a knife from him at the time of his arrest.

Azizul Islam, former joint secretary of the Narayanganj Metropolitan Chhatra Dal, stated that on Sunday night, Chhatra Dal activists organized a torchlight procession against rape from the Masdair area. As the procession was concluding, Samrat allegedly made inappropriate comments, leading to an argument and scuffle with Apurba and his associates.

“At one point, someone stabbed Apurba in the chest. He was being taken to the hospital but died on the way. After the incident, Chhatra Dal activists beat up Samrat and another person. The other individual managed to escape, but Samrat was handed over to the police.”

Following the murder, Chhatra Dal activists staged a protest in front of the hospital, demanding a fair investigation and swift justice.

OC Nasir Ahmad said, “An argument broke out due to inappropriate remarks about the rally, leading to the stabbing. The injured person was taken to Narayanganj 300-Bed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A knife was recovered from the arrested youth, and the case is being investigated with utmost importance.”

Attack on traffic police in N’ganj : Student Coordinator Gaurav arrested

 

Police have arrested Gaurav Debnath Himel (25) in connection with an attack on a traffic police officer in Narayanganj. He was arrested late Monday night (March 10) from the Isdair area. Gaurav, the son of Gaurang Chandra Debnath from Burir Dokan in Isdair, was allegedly posing as a "coordinator."

The ncident took place on Sunday (March 9) afternoon near Dak Bungalow on College Road, where traffic police constable Shaheen Hossain was attacked. Following the incident, Shaheen filed a case against Gaurav and three unidentified persons at Fatullah Model Police Station. Based on the case, Gaurav was later arrested.

According to the case statement, Gaurav was riding his motorcycle near the Dak Bungalow area when it suddenly stopped. He then confronted constable Shaheen, saying, “Why are you doing your duty this way?” When Shaheen responded that he didn’t understand, Gaurav allegedly attacked him. During the altercation, Gaurav introduced himself as a coordinator of an anti-discrimination student movement. Before the police could arrive, he fled the scene.

Fatullah Model Police Station OC Shariful Islam stated that Gaurav was charged with assaulting a police officer and obstructing government duties. Legal actions are being taken against him.

‘Coordinator’, another person held, Yaba recovered in N'ganj

 

A joint force conducted a raid at Narayanganj 300-Bed Hospital and arrested two individuals, including a district committee “coordinator” of the anti-discrimination student movement. Four pieces of Yaba were recovered from them. The raid took place on Sunday.

The arrested individuals were identified as Jidan Hossain and Iqbal Hossain from the anti-discrimination student movement in Narayanganj district.

According to sources, Jidan was using his position as a coordinator to intimidate hospital staff and gain undue advantages. He was also allegedly involved in drug consumption and dealing within the hospital premises. Based on complaints from victims, a joint operation by the army and police led to their arrest from inside the hospital.

Dr. M. A. Bashar, the medical superintendent of Narayanganj 300-Bed Hospital, confirmed that the joint force had arrested two individuals, including someone who claimed to be a “coordinator.”

OC Nasir Uddin of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station stated that Jidan previously worked as a painter and suffered pellet gun injuries during the anti-discrimination movement, after which he took up the role of coordinator. He was involved in Yaba trading and hospital brokerage. Legal proceedings are underway.

Nirab Raihan, convener of the district committee of the anti-discrimination student movement, confirmed Jidan’s role in the organization and said they would take organizational action regarding his arrest.
