
Eviction of illegal structures on Haripur Section of Tamabil Highway

The Roads and Highways Department has removed illegal occupants from government land in Haripur Bazar of Jaintapur Upazila, Sylhet, just a day after issuing a directive to vacate the area on Wednesday.
Jaintapur UNO George Mitra Chakma led the eviction drive to clear illegal structures from both sides of the highway. A team from the Haripur Gas Field Army Camp’s Infantry Regiment, 27 BIR, led by Major Mazharul Islam Naushad, assisted in the operation.
On Tuesday afternoon, the upazila administration had given business owners a deadline to vacate the area. Following the notice, many traders started removing their goods, while some dismantled their tin-roofed shops. However, permanent structures remained.
The eviction drive began in the morning from Taruhati Point with the presence of officials from the Roads and Highways Sylhet Division, the Sylhet-Tamabil Six-Lane Project, and land surveyors. The operation was ongoing as of the latest updates.
Assistant Project Director of the Sylhet-Tamabil Six-Lane Project Iqbal Hayat, Sub-Assistant Engineers of the Roads and Highways Department Sylhet Division Mohammad Soleman and Shamim Ahmed, Jaintapur Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Shankar Chandra Dev, and officials from the Jaintapur Land Office were present.
