Two school children missing in Jamuna River

Two schoolchildren have been reported missing after going for a bath in the Jamuna River in Kazirhat area of Aminpur police station in Bera upazila of Pabna. The incident took place at around 12 noon on Monday in the Natakhola Ghat area of Kazirhat area.
The missing persons are Ratul Roy (15), son of Anutosh Roy of Dhaltosha village of Nagarpur upazila of Tangail, and Prabhat Sarkar (14), son of Mithual Sarkar of Dilalpur area of Pabna. They are cousins and both are students of class 9.
According to police and local sources, the two teenagers had come to visit the house of Shri Nimai Karati in Khanpura Madhyapara area of Aminpur police station in Pabna. On Monday, around 11:30 am, they went to bathe in the Yamuna river near the house. At one stage, both of them went missing after being swept away by the strong current of the river. Despite a long search by the locals, they could not be found. The disappearance of the two schoolchildren has cast a shadow of grief and anxiety over their families and the area. The operation to rescue them is ongoing as of 6 pm, the latest news. No trace of them has been found.
Kazirhat Naval Base OC Arvind Sarkar said that police immediately reached the spot after receiving the information. Fire Service divers have been informed to rescue the two missing teenagers. Police and Fire Service are jointly conducting a rescue operation.
