
Two die from burn injuries in N’ganj factory explosion

Two security guards who were critically injured in a gas explosion at Manju Dyeing and Textile Factory in Rupganj, Narayanganj have died. The deceased are Md. Abdul Hannan (50), son of the late Md. Shafique from Kalikapur village in Ramganj, Lakshmipur, and Kabir Hossain (45), son of the late Md. Rafique from Ruposhi, Rupganj, Narayanganj. Both were employed as security guards at the factory.Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, confirmed their deaths. He stated that Kabir, who suffered 53% burns, died at 9:30 AM on Monday while undergoing treatment in the ICU. Earlier, at around 2:40 AM, Hannan, with 40% burns, had also succumbed to his injuries.The explosion occurred on the morning of May 1 when the factory was shut down. A gas meter reportedly exploded due to excessive pressure, causing a fire that left four security guards injured. One of them, Saiful Islam (32), remains in treatment at the burn institute with 34% burn injuries.Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liaqat Ali said no case has been filed in connection with the incident yet, though a general diary (GD) has been recorded. He added that they are monitoring the situation, and legal action can be taken if any party decides to file a case.
