657 bags of fertilizer seized in Khansama, Tk 90,000 fined

The Upazila Administration and Agriculture Department have conducted raids on the warehouses of two fertilizer dealers in Khansama, Dinajpur, on charges of storing chemical fertilizers beyond the permitted limit. A total of 657 sacks of fertilizer were seized in separate raids. During this, a mobile court fined the two dealers a total of Tk 90,000. At the same time, one warehouse was sealed.
These operations were conducted separately in the Tongua Bazar and Pakerhat areas of the upazila on Friday afternoon.
According to sources, a raid was conducted on the premises of 'Ms. Asaduzzaman Traders', a BCIC-approved fertilizer dealer in Tongua Bazar, on charges of storing fertilizer beyond the permitted limit. During this, 207 sacks of chemical fertilizers were seized from the warehouse of the company. Of these, 94 sacks were DAP, 55 sacks were urea and 58 sacks were MOP fertilizer.
On the same day, at noon, the district and upazila administrations and the upazila agriculture department conducted a raid on the warehouse of 'Ms. Mahadev Traders' in Pakerhat area. The owner of the company is Mahitosh Chandra Chanda, a registered fertilizer dealer of BADC. The raid was conducted based on a secret tip-off that fertilizer was being stored beyond the prescribed limit.
A total of 450 bags of fertilizer were recovered from the warehouse during the operation. This included 300 bags of MOP purchased by the Noapara Group, 50 bags of MOP from the BADC Group, and 100 bags of DAP fertilizer. Later, Mahitosh Chandra Chanda was fined Tk 40,000 through a mobile court and the warehouse was sealed.
The drive was conducted by Dinajpur District Administration Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Adnan Kabir Uday and Khansama Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Kamruzzaman Sarkar. Upazila Agriculture Officer Yasmin Akhter, along with concerned officials of the police station and agriculture department were present at the time.
Khansama UNO Kamruzzaman Sarkar said that 207 sacks of fertilizer seized from Tongua market will be sold to local farmers tomorrow at a fair price determined by the government.
